Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
Genesis 40:23
Joseph was intent on keeping God’s commandments. He didn’t want to sin against God by committing adultery with Pharaoh’s wife so he ran from her when she tried to force him to have sex with her. As usual, the devil does what the devil does by falsely accusing his intended victim when his temptation is resisted (Revelation 12:10). Pharaoh’s wife told a lie and said Joseph tried to rape her and he was put in prison. (Genesis 39:7-20)
Sometimes we can obey God but still be persecuted and wrongly accused. But understand nothing happens unless God has approved it. And if He approved us to be wrongly accused or treated unfairly, it’s all a part of divine will. And reading further we will learn that Joseph’s current position didn’t compare to the position God would have for him later. A much greater calling had been ordained by God.
Forgotten For A Divine Reason
It was God’s will for the chief butler would be freed only to forget about Joseph’s request (Genesis 40:14). There have been a few times when we’ve wondered why we can’t seem to move up and do better. It may not be because of what we’ve done. Remember this passage where Joseph was forgotten for a divine reason. It could be because of what we’re about to do and that brings glory to God and be a blessing to others.
If you’re on a job, that’s not treating you fairly, or in a situation where everything seems to be coming against you, it could be that God is allowing it for His divine reason. Just keep on keeping God’s commandments and keep praying!
