God Uses The Unexpected

For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.

Luke 1:48-49

We are all familiar with the story of the birth of Jesus. Gabriel came to Mary and told her she had found favor with God and she would conceive a Son and His name shall be called Jesus. After Gabriel comforted Mary, who was a virgin, and explained how it would happen by the power of the Holy Ghost.

When Mary visited Elizabeth, she greeted her. When the baby (later named John) heard her voice, he leaped in the womb of Mary. (Luke 1:39-45) Both of them broke out in praise and Mary’s praise is quoted in Luke 1:48-89. This passage stood out to me and I thought:

“God uses the least likely, or less thought of to do His will on the earth and in our community and Mary is proof.”

Within Mary’s praise to God, we see Mary said; “He has regarded the lowly estate of His maidservant.” Mary was a servant of God and lived righteously in her community. Even she was in awe of God wanting to use her to bring forth the Savior of the world.

It may seem to you that you aren’t qualified or special enough to do the will of God. But remember this account of Mary’s praise. God chose her, a virgin, a person of low estate (least likely or least considered) to free all who accepted her Son Jesus as their Savior! So know that you can make a difference through living the will of God, no matter what your social status is! Remember God uses the unexpected.
