Keep Your Focus On Jesus

22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

Matthew 14:22-31

Jesus’ disciples were in a boat rowing toward Bethsaida. They were blown off course during a storm. Jesus walked on the stormy waters and at first, they were afraid. But Jesus comforted them and told them not to fear. Peter, called out to Jesus and asked Him to come to Him. Jesus told him to come.

Peter stepped out of the boat and started walking toward Jesus. He did this on faith, but Peter got in trouble when he looked at how dangerous the situation was. The moment Peter took his eyes off Jesus he started sinking. Peter cried out to Jesus and Jesus reached and secured him on the boat.

Let this true account serve as a template for how our faith should be.

1. We should trust the Lord when we’re going through stormy times in our life.

2. Step out on faith and walk with Jesus through the storms.

3. Keep your focus on Jesus so you don’t sink/drown in your situations.

4. Don’t hesitate to call Jesus when the trials place you over your head.

If we look at our situations and don’t focus on our help, we will drown in our circumstances. Whatever you face in the future, step out on faith, walk (relationship) with Jesus, focus on Him, and don’t hesitate to call (pray) when you need help.

I pray the Lord’s wisdom will guide you through your day and you be used to glorify His name. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Our Lord and Savior help us keep our focus on you through all situations. Increase our faith and help our unbelief. And thank you for helping when we call. In the name of Jesus – Amen!
