Be Thankful For Everything
November is the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a time for family, friends and turkeys to come together. In all the excitement, we should remember to thank the Lord for everything.
We started “A Month of Gratitude” series on November 8th and it will be our theme for November 15th and 22nd worship service. Last Sunday the thought for the Sermon was “Be Thankful For Everything”, and the text was from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-8.
The focus was praying and being thankful even through the rough rides we have to face in our life. There is a lot going on in our country and many of us might find it difficult fo thank God in the midst of sickness, civil unrest, and testy government officials. But if we keep our focus on God and trust Him to lead us into a place of rest, we will always have something to thank Him for.
There were two illustrations used in the message:
- The Child Playing In A Puddle
- If you’ve ever seen a child or you played in a puddle of water, the rain which is the source of the puddle wasn’t an issue.
- The Graduation Present That Wouldn’t Start
- My dad bought me a 1969 Pontiac for my high school graduation present. It looked good and ran well…sometimes. Every now and then I would have to turn the key several times or tap the starter with a hammer before it would start. But I was so happy I had a car, the issue didn’t matter.
In each illustration there was a situation that would block the spirit of gratitude if the focus was on the issue instead of the blessing. So let’s keep praying and showing God our gratitude for all situations because like the car I had, it seemed like junk when it wouldn’t start, but when it did, I was riding!
