Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”
Luke 22:46
It is very important that we stay alert against the wiles of the devil. Prayer is sewn into the armor we need in spiritual warfare. It is written in Ephesians 6:18: “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…”
Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.
Jesus in Luke 22:46
Jesus told the disciples to pray at a time when they really needed to. Their Savior was about to go through suffering as a sacrifice for our sins and they needed to be alert. Prayer is one of the tools God has given us to defeat Satan’s tactics and devices he uses to pull us out of the will of God. Prayer is communicating with God, not just for something material, but more so, prayer is a way for us to be equipped for the spiritual battles and struggles ahead. Jesus found His disciples sleeping and He told them to rise and pray. We are Jesus’ modern-day disciples and He’s telling us to rise and pray, lest we enter into temptation.
Let’s stay alert in the spirit, doing all we can to stay awake. Father, I pray for us to be spiritually alert as we enter further into these last and evil days. Give us the discernment and strength we need to be good servants so we can help lead others out of the coming fire. In Jesus’ name. – Amen.
