For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.2 Timothy 1:7
With the recent reports of COVID-19, commonly referred to as coronavirus, we are bombarded with reports of people getting sick, being quarantined and dying from it. I want to encourage you during this trying time.
This virus isn’t to be taken lightly and we have been given instruction on ways to protect ourselves from it. It appears that washing our hands is the agreed-upon way to protect ourselves. But at the same time, we must remember that besides washing our hands, disinfecting our surroundings, coughing and sneezing in our sleeves, and other measures, we have a God who is able to heal even in this situation we face today.
We take the warnings seriously, but we must be careful not to let fear paralyze us. There has been chaos in local markets with people buying all the things they think they will need. There have been people attacking people of Asian descent. All of this is caused by fear. God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear. He has given us power, love and a sound mind.
Now is the time for us to reflect His image of love by comforting people whose faith might be shaken.
We should take what God has given us and show the world His glory through our actions during this time of uncertainty. Now is the time for us to reflect His image of love by comforting people whose faith might be shaken. Now is the time for us to talk about our faith in the Lord to those who don’t haven’t accepted Him as their Savior. Now is the time to be the Salt and Light Jesus speaks about in Matthew 5.
Don’t be fearful, but remain alert and vigilante to be used of God to guide others through the problems of the world. Fear not! You are filled with His Spirit and with that filling comes power, enough love for everyone and soundness of mind that projects peace and confidence in God our Father.
