You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:6
Moving forward from The Word of God Pt 1, where we learned the Israelites were commanded to keep God’s word (commandments) in their heart. A daily diet of God’s word (reading and studying the Holy Bible) would fill our hearts with the word of God like it was meant to be, not only for the Israelites but for us as well.
All of us want to leave our children something after we’ve transitioned. It may be a house, car, land, money, heirlooms, or anything of value that will help our children complete this life journey. All of these are fine for the material support of them after we’re gone, but we should all focus on their spiritual well-being as well.
If we are diligent in teaching our children, as we learn by our study of God’s word, we will be teaching them while we’re home with them, when we’re on our way somewhere with them, before going to bed and right after we wake up, we will be leaving them the best inheritance we have in the word of God.
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
It is my prayer that we will teach our own and others’ children the word of God. David declares in Psalm 119:105; “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” There are a lot of spiritually lost people in our community. Leaving our children with an inheritance of God’s word will have a ripple effect because they too will be leaving this rich inheritance for the children coming behind them with hopes of helping others find their way to the righteousness of God.
